Hasan
After his gastric DLBCL returned following an initial complete response, Hasan travelled from Iran to Beijing to access CD19 CAR-T cell therapy.
Why the Family Contacted CancerFax
Hasan's family knew that CAR-T cell therapy existed for relapsed lymphoma, but they did not know where it was genuinely available for an international patient, whether Hasan would qualify, or how to arrange treatment abroad while his disease was progressing. The questions were medical, logistical, and time-sensitive all at once.
CAR-T programmes vary widely in depth and experience. Identifying a centre with a strong track record in relapsed B-cell lymphoma required specialist knowledge.
At 68, with relapsed disease and possible kidney involvement, eligibility needed careful evaluation by an experienced cell-therapy team.
Document translation, visa support, hospital communication, and travel coordination all needed to come together quickly and reliably.
"We had seen his scans turn clear once, and then the lymphoma came back. We did not want to lose time. We just needed someone to tell us what was actually possible."β Hasan's family
How CancerFax Helped
CancerFax reviewed Hasan's medical records, organised them into a structured case file, and worked to connect the family with a centre experienced in CD19 CAR-T cell therapy for relapsed B-cell lymphoma. Throughout the process, communication and logistics were coordinated so the family could focus on Hasan.
PET/CT reports, endoscopy and biopsy findings, immunohistochemistry, and the relapse imaging were compiled into a clear case file for specialist review.
CancerFax helped identify Lu Daopei Hospital in Beijing, a centre with significant experience in CAR-T cell therapy for B-cell lymphoma.
Clinical documents were prepared and translated, and communication between the family and the hospital team was managed throughout the evaluation.
Visa documentation, travel guidance, and on-the-ground coordination were arranged for Hasan and his accompanying family member.
Hasan's Treatment Journey
Key steps from diagnosis to treatment and beyond.
An FDG PET/CT scan showed a large active mass in the stomach and duodenum with liver and abdominal lymph node involvement. Endoscopic biopsy and immunohistochemistry confirmed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, non-germinal center type.
Hasan received first-line treatment in Iran. A follow-up PET/CT scan in early 2022 showed an excellent complete metabolic response, with a Deauville score of 1 and resolution of the gastric mass and abdominal lymph nodes.
A comparison PET/CT scan showed progressive disease, with renewed activity in the gastric antrum and new or enlarging lymph nodes in the chest and abdomen.
Imaging showed multiple enlarged para-aortic and peripancreatic lymph nodes, some with central necrosis. Blood tests pointed to reduced kidney function and a microcytic anemia pattern. The family began exploring advanced treatment options abroad.
The family reached out to CancerFax. The medical records were reviewed and organised, and CD19 CAR-T cell therapy at an experienced centre was identified as a possible path worth evaluating.
Hasan travelled from Iran to Lu Daopei Hospital in Beijing. The cell-therapy team carried out its own evaluation of his case, fitness, and suitability for CAR-T cell therapy.
Following the hospital's assessment, Hasan proceeded with CD19 CAR-T cell therapy. The treatment process typically involves collecting the patient's T-cells, engineering them, and reinfusing them after a short conditioning regimen.
Response assessment is ongoing. This section will be updated once confirmed results are available.
Every patient's treatment plan is individual. The pathway above describes this specific case β not a blueprint for others. Suitability for each treatment is determined by the treating clinical team based on each patient's individual clinical situation.
Where Hasan Is Today
Hasan completed CD19 CAR-T cell therapy at Lu Daopei Hospital in Beijing. As with any patient who undergoes cell therapy, he is being monitored closely by the treating team during the early recovery and response-assessment period.
Formal response assessment, including follow-up imaging, guides the next steps in his care. CancerFax remains available to the family for coordination and follow-up support as needed.
β"Reaching this point felt out of reach when we started. Having someone walk us through each step made a frightening situation manageable."ββ Hasan's family
What Other Families Can Learn
Hasan's journey offers a few practical takeaways for families facing relapsed lymphoma and weighing advanced treatment options abroad.
Lymphoma that clears completely can still relapse later. Acting promptly when disease returns helps keep more treatment options open.
Recommended tests such as FISH for BCL2, BCL6, and C-MYC can change how a lymphoma is classified and treated. Completing them supports better decisions.
Exploring advanced therapies like CAR-T while a patient is still well enough to travel and undergo treatment is important.
Translation, documentation, and hospital communication can feel overwhelming. Coordinated navigation removes much of that burden.
