Yong Chan Ahn

MD, MMS, PhD

Prof. Yong Chan Ahn is a Professor Emeritus at Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine and a senior radiation oncologist at Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, with more than 30 years of clinical and academic experience in the field. He is recognised for his work in thoracic oncology and head & neck oncology, with extensive expertise in advanced radiotherapy planning and delivery.

Prof. Ahn completed his medical training at Seoul National University College of Medicine, where he earned MD, MMS, and PhD degrees. Following residency training at Seoul National University Hospital, he broadened his expertise through research and clinical fellowships at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in the United States and the British Columbia Cancer Agency in Canada. He joined Samsung Medical Center as a staff radiation oncologist in 1994 and became professor at Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine in 1997. Throughout his career, he has served as Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Samsung Medical Center, Vice-Dean of Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine, and President of the Korean Society for Head & Neck Oncology. His research record encompasses more than 180 SCI-indexed journal articles with over 13,000 citations, covering lung cancer, nasopharyngeal cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, esophageal cancer, proton therapy, IMRT, and stereotactic body radiotherapy.
