Prof. Dr. Shekhar Kumta is one of India's most experienced orthopaedic oncologists, with a career spanning over three decades and clinical work across India, Hong Kong, and Australia. He trained at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College (LTMMC), Mumbai, and later served for 33 years at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he established Hong Kong's first multidisciplinary orthopaedic oncology programme.

Professor Kumta's clinical expertise centres on bone tumour surgery, soft tissue sarcoma, complex limb salvage reconstruction, and the palliative surgical management of advanced sarcomas and metastatic bone disease. He has pioneered paediatric joint-sparing sarcoma resections, computer-navigation–assisted tumour surgery, and the use of 3D-printed patient-specific implants in musculoskeletal oncology. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, delivered more than 130 conference presentations, and contributed over 10 book chapters.
