PhD (Doctor of Philosophy)
Prof. Rami I. Aqeilan is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Immunology and Cancer Research, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Head of the Institute for Medical Research Israel-Canada. He is internationally recognised for his foundational work on the WWOX tumour suppressor gene and the role of common fragile sites in cancer development.
With more than 25 years of documented cancer research activity, Prof. Aqeilan has built one of the leading laboratories in translational cancer biology. His work spans genome instability, DNA damage response, cancer metabolism, and the discovery of therapeutically relevant molecular vulnerabilities in triple-negative breast cancer, paediatric osteosarcoma, pancreatic cancer, and other malignancies. Hebrew University's research repository records 156 scholarly outputs, including 111 journal articles and 23 review articles, with a Scopus h-index of 54 and more than 14,000 citations. Since November 2023, he also serves as Scientific Director of the Cyprus Cancer Research Institute. His laboratory uses genetically engineered mouse models, patient-derived xenografts, tumour organoids, CRISPR-Cas9 screening, and human clinical samples to translate discoveries towards targeted cancer therapy concepts.
CancerFax can help patients, institutions, and research collaborators connect with Prof. Aqeilan's team at Hebrew University for academic and research-related enquiries.
