Pasi Jänne

MD, PhD

Dr. Pasi A. Jänne, MD, PhD, is a medical oncologist and translational cancer researcher at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, USA, where he serves as Senior Vice President for Translational Medicine and Senior Physician. He is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and holds the David M. Livingston, MD, Chair at Dana-Farber. Dr. Jänne is internationally recognised as one of the co-discoverers of EGFR mutations in lung cancer and a pioneer of precision medicine for non-small cell lung cancer.

With approximately 30 years of experience since completing his MD and PhD at the University of Pennsylvania in 1996, Dr. Jänne has built an internationally recognised career at the intersection of advanced lung cancer care and laboratory-based translational research. He directs the Belfer Center for Applied Cancer Science and the Chen-Huang Center for EGFR Mutant Lung Cancers at Dana-Farber. His research programme focuses on mechanisms of sensitivity and resistance to EGFR-targeted kinase inhibitors, combining genomic, biochemical, and biological studies of patient-derived tumours. He led the phase I clinical trial of osimertinib, which received FDA approval in November 2015, and has led multiple additional clinical studies that have contributed to changes in the standard of care for EGFR-mutant lung cancer. Google Scholar records more than 160,000 citations and an h-index of 177 for his published work.
