Michal Lotem
MD (Doctor of Medicine)
Prof. Michal Lotem, MD, is a medical oncologist and internationally recognised expert in melanoma and cancer immunotherapy at Hadassah Medical Center, Jerusalem. She heads the Center for Melanoma and Cancer Immunotherapy at the Sharett Institute of Oncology and founded the Hadassah Cancer Research Institute. Her work focuses on using the immune system to treat advanced melanoma and other skin-origin cancers.
As a physician-scientist, Prof. Lotem combines direct patient care with translational research in tumour immunology. She trained for around two years in the Surgery Branch of the United States National Cancer Institute under Prof. Steven Rosenberg, a leader in modern cancer immunotherapy and adoptive cell therapy. Her clinical and laboratory work spans immune checkpoint inhibitors, tumour-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy, adoptive cell therapy and personalised cancer vaccines. She also leads the CancerRNA research consortium, which explores RNA-based approaches to strengthen anti-cancer immune responses, and her laboratory has published influential work on the SLAMF6 immune receptor in melanoma.
