Khee Chee Soo
MBBS, MD, FRACS, FACS, FAMS
Prof. Khee Chee Soo, also listed in many Singapore sources as Prof. Soo Khee Chee, is one of Singapore's most experienced surgical oncologists, with particular expertise in head and neck cancer, thyroid cancer and salivary gland tumour surgery. He is the founding Director of the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), which he established in 1997 and led for around 20 years.
Prof. Soo studied medicine at the University of Singapore, graduating in 1975, and went on to complete surgical training in Sydney followed by fellowship training in surgical oncology and head and neck surgery in London and New York. He returned to Singapore General Hospital in 1988 and became Head of the Department of Surgery in 1993, a position he held for 11 years, before founding NCCS in 1997. He is widely regarded as a pioneer of head and neck and complex cancer surgery in Singapore, having introduced advanced procedures such as peritonectomy for previously inoperable abdominal malignancies and isolated limb perfusion to help salvage limbs affected by soft tissue tumours. He retired as Director of NCCS in November 2017 and continues to practise as a senior cancer surgeon in Singapore, while holding the Benjamin Sheares Professorship in Academic Medicine at Duke-NUS Medical School.
