Jacob Gopas

PhD (Doctor of Philosophy)

Prof. Jacob Gopas is a Professor in the Shraga Segal Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva, Israel, with a joint affiliation at Soroka University Medical Center. He is a specialist in cancer immunology, tumour biology, and translational oncology, with more than three decades of research focused on the NF-kB signalling pathway, Hodgkin's lymphoma biology, and mechanisms of drug resistance in cancer.

Prof. Gopas completed his PhD at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where his doctoral research centred on MHC immunogenetics. After postdoctoral work at Ben-Gurion University's Faculty of Health Sciences, he established his own laboratory and research programme at BGU. His research spans the identification and characterisation of NF-kB inhibitors from natural sources with potential anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral applications; the biology of Hodgkin's lymphoma including the role of the measles virus in tumour cells; mechanisms of drug resistance in melanoma cell lines; and the tumour microenvironment's role in platinum chemoresistance in ovarian cancer. His laboratory works in close collaboration with clinical colleagues at Soroka University Medical Center, providing a translational bridge between laboratory discovery and patient care.

Frequently Asked Questions About Prof. Jacob Gopas

Prof. Jacob Gopas is a Professor in the Shraga Segal Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva, Israel. He is a specialist in cancer immunology and translational oncology, with over 30 years of research focused on NF-kB signalling pathways, Hodgkin's lymphoma biology, drug resistance in melanoma and ovarian cancer, and natural anti-cancer compounds.

NF-kB is a family of transcription factors that regulate immune responses and inflammation. In cancer, abnormal NF-kB activation can drive tumour growth, promote cancer cell survival, and cause resistance to chemotherapy. Prof. Gopas's research group has focused extensively on identifying natural and synthetic compounds that inhibit this pathway, with potential implications for treating lymphoma, solid tumours, and drug-resistant cancers.

CancerFax can assist international patients in coordinating access to oncology consultation and clinical evaluation at institutions affiliated with Prof. Gopas's translational research programme, including Soroka University Medical Center in Beer-Sheva. Please submit your medical reports through CancerFax to begin the coordination process, subject to availability and case suitability.

Prof. Gopas's research programme covers Hodgkin's lymphoma, melanoma, ovarian cancer, and other solid tumours involving NF-kB pathway activation or inflammation-driven mechanisms. His translational work has particular relevance for patients with drug-resistant cancers or those being evaluated for novel therapeutic approaches.

Prof. Gopas's translational research at Ben-Gurion University informs clinical investigation at Soroka University Medical Center. Patients with lymphoma, ovarian cancer, or melanoma may be eligible for studies aligned with his research programme. Specific trial availability depends on current study status and individual patient eligibility. CancerFax can help coordinate an initial enquiry.

A second-opinion request for cases involving lymphoma, melanoma, or ovarian cancer can be submitted through CancerFax with relevant pathology reports, imaging, and treatment history. Expert input drawing on Prof. Gopas's translational expertise and clinical colleagues at Soroka Medical Center can be explored, subject to institutional availability and case acceptance.
