Prof. Erwei Song is one of China's most influential breast cancer surgeon-scientists and a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He serves as Professor of Breast Surgery and President of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, UK, and a CMB Distinguished Professor.

Prof. Song obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. from Sun Yat-sen University and subsequently completed post-doctoral training at Essen University Hospital, Germany, and Harvard Medical School, where he later served as an Instructor at the CBR Institute for Biomedical Research. With approximately 30 years of experience spanning clinical breast surgery and laboratory-based cancer biology, he has become a recognised pioneer of breast-conserving surgery in China and contributed to the first Chinese expert guidelines for breast-conserving procedures in early breast cancer. He has published 171 SCI research articles in high-impact journals including Nature, Cell, Cancer Cell, Nature Immunology, and Science Translational Medicine, and his work on RNA interference was listed among Science magazine's Top Ten Breakthroughs of 2003. In 2022 he received the World Academy of Sciences Award in Medical Sciences for his Tumour Ecosystem Theory.
