Professor Edward S. Kim is a world-renowned medical oncologist and physician executive serving as Physician-in-Chief at City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center in Irvine, California, and Vice Physician-in-Chief at City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, California. He is an internationally recognised expert in thoracic oncology, with over 22 years of clinical and research experience in lung cancer, head and neck cancer, and thyroid cancer.

Prof. Kim trained at Northwestern University (BS 1992, MD 1996), completed his internal medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine, and his medical oncology fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He spent a decade at MD Anderson as Tenured Associate Professor and Chief of the Section of Head and Neck Medical Oncology before leading solid tumour oncology at Levine Cancer Institute, Atrium Health, from 2012 to 2020. He is the lead investigator of the landmark BATTLE trial β€” the first prospective, biopsy-mandated, biomarker-based, adaptively randomised lung cancer study β€” which established a new paradigm for personalised cancer therapy.
