Daniel Tan

B.Sc. (Hons), MBBS (London), MRCP (UK), PhD

Dr. Daniel Shao-Weng Tan is a Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist at the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) and Professor in the SingHealth Duke-NUS Oncology Academic Clinical Programme. He specialises in thoracic oncology, head and neck oncology, precision oncology, and early-phase cancer drug development.

Dr. Tan leads the Division of Clinical Trials and Epidemiological Sciences at NCCS and directs its Experimental Cancer Therapeutics Unit โ€” one of the largest Phase I oncology trial units in Asia, running approximately 30โ€“40 trials concurrently. His research focuses on the determinants of response and resistance to targeted therapy and immunotherapy, drug-resistance mechanisms, novel anti-cancer agents, and blood-based biomarkers for early cancer detection. He is also a Senior Clinician-Scientist at the Genome Institute of Singapore and chairs the Asian Thoracic Oncology Research Group. In 2025, he was awarded a S$25 million NMRC Large Collaborative Grant for the CLARION programme, a major Singapore-led initiative targeting early detection, personalised treatment, and drug-resistance research in Asian lung cancer patients. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles in journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Nature, Nature Genetics, and Journal of Clinical Oncology.
